Hong Kong worker dies after being hit by toppling crane truck at Cheung Sha Wan site
A broken stabilising outrigger may be the cause of the accident; officials are still investigating
A Hong Kong worker died after he was hit by the arm of a toppling crane truck in Cheung Sha Wan on Thursday.
The crane truck was deployed for lifting bulldozers at the entrance of a construction site on Caldecott Road near the junction of Tai Po Road, when the incident happened at about 2pm, according to police.
It is understood the man was standing next to the truck and operating the crane to load two bulldozers onto the back of the vehicle.
“While loading the second bulldozer, the truck suddenly toppled on one side and he was knocked unconscious when the crane arm hit his head and chest,” a police source said.
The man was taken to Caritas Medical Centre, where he was later certified dead.

The stabilising outriggers of the crane truck were extended at the time of the incident, but one of the legs reportedly broke, causing the entire truck to become unbalanced and topple from the load.
Police and officers from the Labour Department are investigating the incident.
The department said it had sent staff to the site upon receiving an accident report.
