Driver dies after being crushed between his vehicle and another truck in Hong Kong car park
Police investigating whether he had properly engaged his handbrake before he exited the vehicle
A Hong Kong driver died in hospital in the early hours of Wednesday after being crushed between two trucks in Kwai Chung.
The man, 37, parked his truck for maintenance at the car park of a logistics centre near Container Port Road South before the incident happened at about 11.30pm Tuesday.
“After he alighted from his truck, the vehicle reportedly rolled backwards and slammed into another truck behind. The man was trapped between the two vehicles,” a police spokesman said.
Rescuers freed the man, who was unconscious and had serious head and chest injuries. He was taken to Princess Margaret Hospital, where he was certified dead at about 1.30am Wednesday, police said.
Officers were investigating whether the victim had properly engaged the handbrake of his truck before he left the vehicle.

The two trucks were towed to a government vehicle plant in Tuen Mun for examination.
Police appealed to anyone with information to contact officers on +852 3661 1300. Officers from the New Territories South traffic unit were handling the case.
This was the second such accident to occur in two weeks. On August 24, a 63-year-old man died after he was crushed between his truck and another vehicle in the car park of an industrial building in Kowloon Bay.
Official statistics show 68 people died in 66 fatal traffic accidents across the city in the first seven months of the year.
