Woman arrested after second baby found abandoned in Hong Kong this week
Filipino held after boy, who was unharmed, found not far from where a newborn girl was found abandoned a day earlier
A Filipino woman was arrested in Hong Kong on Thursday for leaving a baby boy next to a rubbish bin in Wan Chai, just a day after the death of a newborn girl found abandoned in the same area.
The 38-year-old mother was arrested on suspicion of abusing the boy, who looked to be one or two years old.
He was unharmed but sent to nearby Ruttonjee Hospital for a medical check.
A female passer-by saw the boy sitting alone next to a rubbish bin near Tung Wah Centenary Square, on Queen’s Road East, at about 6pm on Thursday, and called police.
“When police officers went to the scene to investigate, the mother of the boy also arrived,” a police spokesman said.
He said officers were looking into what had happened.
The baby was naked and unconscious when found outside the China Life Insurance building, at the junction of Hennessy Road and Tonnochy Road. She still had her umbilical cord attached.

She was taken by ambulance to Ruttonjee Hospital, but later declared dead.
Before Wednesday’s incident, only one case of abandonment of a child aged under two was reported between 2015 and August this year, according to police.
