Four-year-old girl dies after falling from fifth floor of Hong Kong apartment block

Police say the girl was found unconscious outside the Fiori housing estate

A four-year-old girl died in hospital after falling from the fifth storey of an apartment block in Hong Kong on Monday.

The incident happened at Fiori private housing estate in the Ping Shan section of Castle Peak Road, Yuen Long, at about 5.30pm.

A police spokeswoman said emergency personnel responded to a call from a neighbour.

“The girl was found lying unconscious on a canopy of Block Six in the estate,” the spokeswoman said.

The girl was taken to Pok Oi Hospital in Yuen Long, where she was declared dead shortly after 6pm.

A police source said the girl’s father, grandparents and elder sister were at their home on the fourth floor in that block.

The grandmother had gone up to the rooftop while doing chores and did not notice that the girl had followed her. When she finished, she returned to the flat, leaving the girl on the roof.

The child then fell to the canopy on the first floor .
