Police were on Friday night searching for a sex attacker who posed as a plain-clothes police officer and indecently assaulted an 11-year-old schoolgirl on a public housing estate in Hong Kong.

The Cantonese-speaking man, who was still on the run, approached the girl – a Primary Six pupil – on Pak Tin Estate on Pak Tin Street, Sham Shui Po at about 4.30pm on Wednesday, as she walked home from school.

“The victim was told he was a police officer. He demanded to check her school handbook and then took her to a nearby staircase, where she was indecently assaulted,” a police source said.

After receiving the report, police scouted the area but no arrest was made.
