Driver and two passengers critically hurt after Hong Kong taxi slams into roadworks vehicle

Three people were critically injured in a car crash on a motorway in Tsing Yi, near Hong Kong’s main container port, late on Wednesday.
Emergency services received a report of a traffic accident shortly before midnight involving a taxi that had slammed into the rear of a stationary roadworks vehicle on Tsing Kwai Highway, according to police.
Images of the scene showed the entire front of the taxi crushed under the tail end of the larger vehicle.
Two female passengers and the taxi driver were in critical condition and taken to Princess Margaret Hospital for treatment.
The 52-year-old driver was trapped in the wreckage and had to be rescued by firefighters. He was unconscious and suffered injuries to his chest and leg.
One of the passengers, 49, suffered injuries to her head. She was also unconscious by the time rescuers reached the site.
A second passenger, 44, suffered injuries to her torso but was conscious.
The operator of the roadworks vehicle passed a breathalyser test. The injured taxi driver has not been able to take one yet.
