Hong Kong taxi driver beaten up for refusing to pick up illegally
In second attack of its kind this week, group of three men assault driver who would not stop for them on double yellow lines
A group of men attacked a taxi driver in Wan Chai during Wednesday’s early hours after he refused to stop on double yellow lines to pick them up, police said, in the second attack of its kind this week.
At about 12.30am the 54-year-old driver, surnamed Chu, reached the junction of Tonnochy Road and Lockhart Road.
The three men hailed the cab but Chu did not pull up because there were double yellow lines, which mean vehicles cannot stop.
Police said the local men, aged 20 to 25, dragged Chu out of the vehicle and assaulted him. The driver, who had injuries on his face, was sent to the nearby Ruttonjee Hospital.
The attack came on the heels of a similar one just over 24 hours earlier. On Monday at around 11.45pm, a group of men attacked a 43-year-old taxi driver surnamed Cheung.
Cheung had similarly refused to stop and take passengers on double yellow lines, near China Hong Kong City on Canton Road, Tsim Sha Tsui.

Police said the group pulled the driver from the vehicle and attacked him. Cheung, whose face and chest were injured, was sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Yau Ma Tei.
