Man accused of indecent assault in Hong Kong gets bail but at 10 times the amount he proposed
Ex-care home superintendent now earns HK$250 per day as part-time cleaner
A former care home superintendent accused of molesting a woman at a school some 30 years ago was granted bail by a Hong Kong court on Tuesday, but at an amount 10 times greater than what he wanted to pay.
Now a part-time kitchen cleaner earning HK$250 per day, Cheung Kin-wah proposed to offer, among other things, HK$1,000 cash bail at the Eastern Court. But Principal Magistrate Bina Chainrai set the amount at HK$10,000.
Cheung, 56, was eventually able to leave the court building after his friends paid the bail money for him.

He was ordered not to leave Hong Kong and not to interfere with any prosecution witnesses. He was also required to report regularly to a police station.
The former superintendent of the Bridge of Rehabilitation Company appeared at Sai Wan Ho to face five counts of indecent assault involving a woman identified only as ‘X’.
The alleged incidents took place between 1982 and 1986 at the library, stairways and recreation room of a school, as well as during a summer camp in Wu Kai Sha.

“Understood,” Cheung said, after he was read the five charges.
He has yet to make a plea.
Prosecutors said the case would be transferred to the District Court. The magistrate adjourned the case to December 29.
After exiting the court building, Cheung refused to comment on the matter.
