Man killed in Hong Kong when fully loaded crane overturns
Driver had stopped to reload dropped cargo when crane suddenly fell
A villager was killed in Hong Kong on Saturday afternoon when a fully loaded crane overturned and crushed him.
The crane was travelling along Fung Kat Heung Road in Yuen Long at about 2pm when part of its load of iron I-beams dropped.
The driver stopped to reload the cargo and a man from the nearby village was helping to direct traffic, when the crane suddenly overturned on top of them.
Paramedics and firefighters were called to the scene to rescue the two trapped men.
“The man was unconscious and taken to Pok Oi Hospital where he was certified dead soon after he arrived. The driver was sent to the same hospital for treatment to a hand injury,” a police spokeswoman said.
The crane destroyed the roof of a village house. Police are looking into the cause of the accident.
