Hong Kong doctor, politician Lo Wing-lok dies at 60
Infectious disease specialist turned politician Dr Lo Wing-lok has died at the age of 60 after losing his fight against lung cancer.

Infectious disease specialist turned politician Dr Lo Wing-lok has died at the age of 60 after losing his fight against lung cancer.
He was warded at Queen Mary Hospital in Pok Fu Lam last week and then discharged, but died at Canossa Hospital in Mid-Levels yesterday morning.
A doctor by training, Lo reached a peak in his political career when he was medical-sector legislator between 2000 and 2004, while at the same time serving two terms as Medical Association president. He was seen as a pro-government figure.
Secretary for Food and Health Dr Ko Wing-man said: "He made significant contributions to the improvement of Hong Kong's preparedness for infectious disease outbreaks by serving as a member of the scientific committee on emerging and zoonotic diseases at the Centre for Health Protection in the last 11 years."
Lo graduated from St Paul's College in 1974 and then the medical school of the University of Hong Kong in 1979.
His political ambitions on the Legislative Council were foiled when he was defeated in 2004 by urologist Kwok Ka-ki, now Civic Party lawmaker in New Territories West.
In 2006, Lo made a surprise move of joining the League of Social Democrats, later becoming its vice-chairman. But he quit after a dispute with then chairman Wong Yuk-man in late 2007.
Lo later lost the 2008 and 2012 Legco elections as an independent candidate in the Hong Kong Island constituency.
Still, he remained active in public affairs, offering comments on public health topics ranging from bird flu to the ventilation of government headquarters in Admiralty and even public toilets. which he took an interest in as chairman of the Toilet Association inspecting public toilets.
Lo is survived by a son, 29. His wife, gynaecologist Anna Yung Hiu-yan, died in 2013.
