Pan-democrats reach out to Liberals on key district council vote

Pan-dems reach out to Liberals on key vote
The pro-establishment Liberal Party has occasionally supported some of the pan-democratic camp’s causes, and its vote might be crucial when Sham Shui Po district council meets on Tuesday to elect a chairman. In the poll in November, pan-democrats won 11 of 23 council seats, just one fewer than the pro-establishment camp. Pan-democrat Tam Kwok-kiu, from the Association for Democracy and People’s Livelihood, is understood to be seeking the support of the Liberals’ new councillor Dominic Lee Tsz-king in his bid to take the helm again. Tam chaired the council from 2000 to 2007. Lee told the Post that his party’s chairman, Felix Chung Kwok-pan, received a letter from Tam, asking for a meeting on the matter. Lee has yet to decide whether to support Tam. “I will pick the chairman based on their personal capabilities, not their political affiliation . I am not sure whether Tam would be a bit out-of-date with the council since he was not a councillor in the last four years,” Lee said. Non-affiliated Ambrose Cheung Wing-sum is also understood to be interested in the post, but he could not be reached for comment. Tony Cheung
