Hong Kong pan-democrats could win 17 seats in geographical constituencies, preliminary poll results show
This would be one seat shy of total won in 2012 Legislative Council elections; pro-establishment camp could also lose one geographical seat
The city’s pro-democracy camp, including two localist candidates, could win 17 seats in the geographical constituencies in the upcoming Legislative Council elections, according to a preliminary survey.
The number of seats expected to be won by both the pan-democratic and pro-establishment camps would be one fewer than what they grabbed in the 2012 elections, while two seats would be won by middle-of-the-roaders.
The poll also found that radical pan-democrats could face an uphill battle when voters head to polling stations on September 4.
The poll was carried out by the University of Hong Kong’s public opinion programme from June 20 to July 8.
A total of 5,084 registered voters from five geographical constituencies were interviewed in the survey commissioned by pan-democrat group Power for Democracy.
