Association for Democracy and People’s Livelihood sees exodus after Legco election defeat
Pan-democratic group championing grass-roots issues on verge of collapse after leader quits to take responsibility for defeat of all candidates in Legislative Council polls

A pan-democratic group championing grass-roots issues is on the verge of collapse after its leader quit to take responsibility for the defeat of all its candidates in the Legislative Council elections on Sunday.
Rosanda Mok Ka-han tendered her resignation on Tuesday from the post of chairwoman of the Association for Democracy and People’s Livelihood, after three candidates from the group, including veteran lawmaker Frederick Fung Kin-kee, lost at the polls.
Two other district councillors are also planning to quit the group, whose influence has dwindled with Fung’s defeat.
Carmen Ng Mei, a veteran district councillor of the ADPL, said she had tendered her resignation back in April but that it had nothing to do with the party’s election strategy.
It was understood a number of ADPL members were unhappy with the party’s decision to field Tam Kwok-kiu instead of Mok to run in Kowloon West.
“I want to enjoy more flexibility in working with different groups,” Ng told the Post. “I joined the ADPL two decades ago and have witnessed its ups and downs – including the days where we had no representative in Legco.”
