Just Saying | Thank God for Donald Trump’s temperament, it’s keeping a third world war at bay

It’s one of those times to actually be grateful for US President Donald Trump’s often eccentric temperament and my-way-or-the-highway mentality, because that may well be preventing a third world war.

There is so much noise about the US-China trade war and chatter over Democratic politicians’ calls to impeach Trump for trying to obstruct justice during the Russia-collusion investigation that it’s easy to overlook a far more alarming and potentially catastrophic drama playing out over the last few weeks – America and Iran are on the brink of a war that will make everything else pale in comparison.

Washington has been really ramping up the demonisation of Iran on the international stage, ever since Trump’s national security adviser and war whisperer, John Bolton, announced in the beginning of May that an aircraft carrier strike group and a bomber task force had been deployed to the Persian Gulf.

Bolton cited a “credible threat” from Iran, while Trump later followed up with an openly genocidal and unpresidential taunt: “If Iran wants to fight, that will be the official end of Iran. Never threaten the United States again!”

Now, with Bolton ready to present “evidence” to the UN Security Council of Iran’s culpability in a recent spate of attacks on oil tankers and pipelines in the Middle East, it smells like Iraq all over again.
