University of Hong Kong student leaders being investigated under the national security law for passing a resolution that “appreciated the sacrifice” of a man who stabbed a police officer before killing himself will be put on a watch list and intercepted if they try to leave the city, the Post has learned.
A police source said on Saturday that law enforcement officers would stop those involved in the motion – passed last week by the HKU Students’ Union Council but subsequently withdrawn after an outcry – if they attempted to leave Hong Kong at a border checkpoint. But he refused to reveal who would be placed on the list.
Dozens of national security police raided the offices of the student union and campus media on Friday, three days after university management severed all ties with the body and accused its leaders of “serious misconduct”.

The source said no arrests were expected at this stage as police were still gathering evidence, adding that officers were investigating if anyone had committed the act of advocating terrorism or inciting terrorist activity under the Beijing-imposed national security law.
