Beijing officials to host first seminar for Hong Kong lawmakers at Legislative Council, will brief on 14th five-year plan
- Delegation led by Huang Liuquan, a deputy director of the State Council’s Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office, will visit from Sunday to Wednesday
- Major events include closed-door meeting with legislators next Monday

Beijing officials will host their first seminar at Hong Kong’s Legislative Council next Monday when they brief city lawmakers on the country’s 14th five-year plan, sources have said.
Pro-establishment legislators called the event “symbolic”, saying on Tuesday it showed senior mainland Chinese officials no longer viewed meeting local legislators as taboo, but the lone opposition figure in the council, Cheng Chung-tai, called it “unsubstantial” and turned down an invitation to attend.
The delegation, led by Huang Liuquan, a deputy director of the State Council’s Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office, will visit from Sunday to Wednesday.
Senior officials from the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Science and Technology and the People’s Bank of China were also expected to join the trip.
A major event was a closed-door seminar to be held in the Legco dining hall on Monday afternoon, with a brief session open to the media, sources said. Huang will meet Hong Kong’s top officials in the morning.
