Hong Kong’s leader will travel to Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam later this month to promote the city and explore new business opportunities, making his third visit to Southeast Asia since he took office and his first trip overseas in a year.

Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu on Tuesday also promised “big efforts” to develop the city’s economy as he announced he would hold more than 40 online and in-person meetings with residents to gather feedback for his third policy address to be delivered in October.

Lee said he would lead a delegation comprising leaders in commerce, finance, transport, logistics, law and the creative industries to promote Hong Kong on his coming trip.

“We will introduce the latest developments in Hong Kong to the political and business circles of Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam, especially Hong Kong’s advantages and the opportunities, economic and trade ties and extensive business opportunities it can bring to Asean,” he said.

“[We will] explore business opportunities, establish broader contacts and networks, and forge and develop new fields and opportunities.”

Lee added that he would continue to lobby for support from the three countries for Hong Kong’s application to join the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, made up of 15 Asia-Pacific countries, including the 10 Asean members.
