Hong Kong’s first national security-themed museum exhibition will open its doors to the public on Wednesday, with the city’s leader saying the push for internal stability is an ongoing effort that should be on equal footing with pursuing economic development.
Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu spoke at Tuesday’s inauguration event for the Hong Kong Museum of History’s national security exhibition gallery in Tsim Sha Tsui, where he urged the public to remain vigilant, especially amid geopolitical tensions.

“Efforts to safeguard national security are ongoing and will never be completed,” he said.

“In the face of a rapidly changing international situation, frequent regional conflicts and containment and suppression efforts by external forces, we must step up our vigilance and prepare for extreme scenarios.”

Lee said national security and developing the economy should be considered of equal importance, adding that everyone needed to excel in predicting possible risks and challenges amid advancement efforts.

“I hope different organisations, various sectors, tertiary institutions, primary and secondary schools, and youth groups, will better promote national security education for all and enhance residents’ awareness and commitment to consciously defending national security by arranging visits to the exhibition.”
