Hong Kong journalist on leave from university duties after ruling on seditious articles
Allan Au, a former TVB and RTHK employee, was slated to teach classes at Chinese University of Hong Kong

A veteran Hong Kong journalist who previously worked for TVB will take a leave of absence as a university consultant after four of his articles published on a now-defunct online news service were ruled seditious by a court last week.
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on Tuesday confirmed that Allan Au Ka-lun would take a break from his role as a professional consultant at the institution’s School of Journalism and Communication.
“Due to personal reasons, Dr Au has applied for leave. The school has made relevant arrangements,” a CUHK spokeswoman said. “The relevant courses are not affected.”
Au, a former employee of TVB and public broadcaster RTHK, declined to respond to questions from the Post.
Earlier in the day, he wished everyone “good morning” on his social media platform and posted a nine-second video of water bubbles, citing an old saying that one could not step into the same river twice.
The Post learned that other teaching and support staff involved in the courses taught by Au were only informed of his leave on Monday afternoon.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, one staff member said the school’s management had not finalised plans to replace Au as of Tuesday, and expressed concerns that any new incoming instructor would have insufficient time to take over the courses.
