Top officials at Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office express confidence in city’s future as John Lee attends forum on economic cooperation in Beijing

Beijing’s point man on Hong Kong affairs has urged businesses and other sectors to remain united to grow the local economy and turn their patriotism into concrete works as he met the city leader on Friday.
Xia Baolong, the director of the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office (HKMAO), also reaffirmed Beijing’s support for the city’s development and praised the performance of Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu’s administration.
He said he hoped all sectors of Hong Kong society, especially the business community including entrepreneurs, would firmly support the chief executive and the rest of the city government in their “lawful governance”, work together to seize opportunities, boost the economy, build infrastructure, pursue development and transform their patriotism into concrete and practical actions.
“They should work together to promote prosperity and make new and greater contributions to the comprehensive advancement of national construction and the great rejuvenation of the nation through Chinese-style modernisation,” he said.
Xia also praised government officials for “resolutely implementing President Xi Jinping’s important speeches and directives, demonstrating a willingness to take responsibility and achieve results”.
“They are fully committed to boosting the economy and fostering development, actively attracting businesses and talent, working hard to address people’s livelihood issues and strengthening international exchanges and cooperation,” he said.
