Beijing names senior editor as deputy director of liaison office in Hong Kong
Sun Shangwu, 56, was previously deputy editor-in-chief of the English-language China Daily newspaper

The State Council announced Sun Shangwu’s new role on Saturday. A source earlier said that the new deputy director would be taking charge of publicity work.
The Post had reported that Sun, 56, who had been a deputy editor-in-chief of China Daily, had been chosen to improve the central government’s narratives for international audiences.
Sources had previously said Sun would help the liaison office engage better with the English-speaking world and enhance its footing in the English-language media landscape, “as Beijing seeks to improve China’s narrative in Hong Kong and the world”.
An insider had said Sun was expected to work with all news platforms to “tell the Hong Kong story well”.
