“What about MAGA and the tens of millions of people you insulted with your racist and dangerous comments!?” Donald Trump tweeted this week at American actor Jussie Smollett.

Let the man have his “I told you so” moment because Smollett’s incredible train wreck of a story proves the US president’s point about being treated unfairly, along with his supporters, by the mainstream media and the liberal narrative.

The 36-year-old Chicago-based actor from the Fox musical drama TV series Empire set off a storm of condemnation and righteous indignation among the anti-Trump brigade when he filed a police report late last month claiming that he had been brutalised in a racist and homophobic assault by two white men when he had gone out to buy food late at night on January 29.

Smollett, who is black and gay, said his attackers were yelling “this is MAGA country” – parroting Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan – as they punched him, tied a noose round his neck and poured a chemical substance over him.
