The body of a canoeist missing for nearly 10 days after setting out from western Lantau Island might have been located near mainland China.

A Hong Kong police spokesman said mainland Chinese authorities informed local police on Tuesday the body of a man suspected to be Law Kwok-Kan, 43, was found in mainland Chinese waters near Zhuhai.

Law was reported missing on March 31 after sailing from the village of Yi O to nearby Tai O with a group of 10 other adults and a child on seven canoes.

The police source said Law’s family had not identified the body.

Law was in a red, white and blue canoe and was thought to have disappeared near Nga Ying Kok.
