‘Queen of Canto-pop’ Sammi Cheng forgives cheating husband Andy Hui and says she will not give up on their marriage

Hong Kong superstar Sammi Cheng Sau-man says she has forgiven her singer husband Andy Hui Chi-on after widely circulated footage showed him cheating on her and says she will not give up their five-year marriage.
“This is the most important lesson in our marriage as we have experienced emotional ups and downs together,” Cheng wrote on Instagram. “We have since communicated very deeply about this. The saying that ‘no one is flawless’ is old but true.
“We know each other’s weaknesses and we are not giving up on ourselves or one another.”
Cheng, 46, who is a Christian, added holding hands and praying together had also helped the couple.
The two have been married for about five years after dating on-and-off for more than 20 years. Their romance can be traced to when they were both starting out in the entertainment industry and has been regarded as a “local romance legend”.
A tearful Hui apologised at a press conference on Tuesday evening, watched by hundreds of thousands of people online.
His manager Paco Wong confirmed a concert plan in September would be cancelled, as well as bookings for many shows and performances in mainland China.
On Wednesday, actress Jacqueline Wong also issued a statement admitting she was ashamed of her actions.
“Sorry, I am wrong. I have done something very wrong, unforgivable, and I feel very ashamed about it,” the 30-year-old wrote.
“I would not dare ask for everyone’s forgiveness. So, I just beg everyone to give all those involved some space. I seriously repent on my wrongdoings and accept any consequences or punishment.”
Wong’s boss at TVB, Virginia Lok, said the company felt the actress needed to take some time off.
Actor Kenneth Ma Kwok-ming, who Wong has been dating for two years, carried on working on a local drama series throughout the scandal and repeated the call for space.
“I believe she knows she was wrong. She is still young and there are a lot of paths ahead of her,” Ma said. “Since Andy Hui has spoken, I will not say anything more. I feel no one else is qualified to have a say about this except his wife [Sammi Cheng].”
Under a new law to be implemented in June, the Office for Personal Data Protection said only video and audio devices installed by Macau’s Transport Bureau were legal. Offenders could face prosecution, resulting in heavy fines or imprisonment, it said.
It was not known whether Hui and Wong were in a taxi, hire car, or private vehicle when the video was taken.
