Construction has resumed on a theatre complex on reclaimed land at the multibillion-dollar West Kowloon Cultural District – despite an ongoing investigation into subsidence at the site.

The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority, which manages the project, announced on Monday that “following a satisfactory review from the Buildings Department … works have now resumed outside the incident area”.

It added that regarding the subsidence “a full investigation at the affected area is still ongoing”.

The authority said in a statement that it was monitoring the site and a full account of the incident would be provided to the Legislative Council “in due course”.

An authority spokesman declined to provide more details.

Democrat Helena Wong Pik-wan, who sits on the Legco subcommittee that monitors the arts hub project, criticised the authority for trying to keep the public in the dark.

“It has already been a month and the authority has still failed to provide some initial findings,” said Wong.
