A man died after falling from a building at Hong Kong Polytechnic University on Saturday night.

At 7.25pm, police got a report from a security worker, saying the man was found lying on the ground near Block Z on the Hung Hom campus. When officers arrived, they found the man was already dead. No suicide note was found.

The 31-year-old, surnamed Chung, was believed to have fallen from the building and died, but the cause of death was still to be confirmed after an autopsy.

According to Ken Woo Kwok-wang, acting president of the university’s student union, the man neither worked nor studied at PolyU.

“The person is believed to have had a student card for the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education,” Woo said, “It’s likely Chung fell from the 11th floor of the teaching building, because that’s where the police went to check.”

Two elderly people, believed to be the man’s relatives, were seen going to the spot at about 9pm. The man’s background, and any connection with PolyU, were unclear.
