Stephanie Au Hoi-shun wants to spread joy during this holiday season.

The Olympic swimmer, representing Operation Santa Claus, the annual fundraising drive organised by the South China Morning Post and public broadcaster RTHK, sent Christmas greetings on Wednesday to 13 organisations that had been selected to benefit from the year-end campaign.

These beneficiaries include groups that help people with disabilities and disadvantaged children.

“I am happy to spread love and happiness to everyone during Christmas,” Au said. “Christmas is my favourite festival.”

The Operation Santa Claus ambassador crafted the greetings on postcards specially designed to raise money for the charity appeal.

She then put the postcards, which featured Disney characters such as Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and teddy bear Duffy, in the postbox at Hong Kong Disneyland theme park on Lantau Island.

The postcards are available for HK$10 each at two outlets at the resort from now until January 1.

More than 27,000 pieces have been sold in about a month since their launch, according to the firm.

Senders may earn a Disney character postmark by mailing the cards there. All proceeds from the charity postcards will go to Operation Santa Claus.

The postcards are part of Hong Kong Disneyland’s initiative this year to support the annual fundraiser.

It was the first time that the company had developed merchandise items with an NGO.

Apart from the 13 beneficiaries of Operation Santa Claus in the city, thousands of people in more than 20 countries and regions, including Australia and the United States, have received the festive postcards sent by their loved ones or well-wishers from the Hong Kong resort.
