Uplifting tales from hard-up Hongkongers have been shared on a music and storytelling tour of the city designed to spread festive cheer and draw attention to the plight of those in need.

A group of 21 Hong Kong students staged performances on a specially adapted truck called the “White Christmas Express” as part of an annual Swire Properties initiative.

Under the programme, students from Polytechnic University, Chinese University, and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) received six months of training and mentoring on improving public spaces before settling on their idea.

The students designed the green open-air truck, decking it out with a stage and festive decorations, before using it to host and record six 30-minute music shows featuring artists such as Pakho Chau in Wan Chai, Tung Chung and Quarry Bay.

At the same time, students have reached out to various community groups, including struggling families, medical staff and members of ethnic minorities, to understand more about the difficulties they face, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.
