Hong Kong digital warning for residents, as TV channels prepare to switch frequencies
- Office of the Communications Authority reminding property owners and managers to reconfigure television signal transmission systems
- Six channels, including three RTHK ones, to move to new frequencies from December 1

Hong Kong property owners and managers have until December 1 to reconfigure their television signal transmission system with some digital channels switching to new frequencies.
The city’s communications authority said residents could miss out on getting six channels from the start of next month, if the common antenna broadcast distribution (CABD) systems on their buildings were not updated.
Channels affected include Jade 81 of Television Broadcasts Limited, ViuTVsix 96 and ViuTV 99 of HK Television Entertainment Company Limited, and three RTHK channels. The transmitting frequencies for other channels remain unchanged.

A spokesman for the Office of the Communications Authority said around 90 per cent of households in multistorey buildings with the system have completed the update.
For residents of village houses, bungalows and old tenement buildings, they only need to rescan for the channels and do not need to adjust their digital television receivers or antennas.
“Property managers should pay particular attention to the elderly, ethnic minorities and other residents with special needs, and provide them with appropriate assistance as necessary,” the spokesman said.
