Stadium food vendors and nearby restaurants brace for Hong Kong Sevens rugby tournament
- Concession holders and restaurateurs predict good sales, despite lower numbers at Hong Kong Stadium than usual
- One vendor says he expects to sell at least 1,000 kebabs and 2,000 slices of pizza a day

Food vendors at the Hong Kong Sevens rugby tournament are bracing themselves for a scrum on Friday as they prepare for the big event, and restaurants are warming up for a boost to business from the three-day competition.
The event, last held in 2019 because of Covid-19, will take place at the Hong Kong Stadium in Causeway Bay and is expected to pull in more than 30,000 spectators on its first day.
Restaurant chain Ebeneezer’s Kebabs & Pizzeria will be among the seven companies serving food and drinks from concession stands.
Sunny Rekhani, one of the chain’s owners and managing directors, said it would be the firm’s first year at the event and that he was delighted to take part.
Food sales were banned when the go-ahead for the games were given because of Covid-19 concerns, although drinking while seated in the stands was permitted.
But the event was given approval for food sales at the grounds on October 21, but eating will only be allowed when seated.
