Diners at a Hong Kong dim sum restaurant had a narrow escape when a false ceiling collapsed in its dining hall at a shopping centre in the New Territories on Monday.

Emergency personnel were called to the Tao Heung restaurant on the ground floor of Avon Mall on Yat Ming Road in Fanling after the incident occurred soon after 9am, according to police.

An online video shows the collapsed false ceiling leaning against a wall in the dining hall with a group of diners, mostly elderly, leaving in a hurry.
