The couple, aged 37 and 38, sustained injuries to their back, neck, shoulders and hands, according to investigators, who said they believed the pair could have been involved in an “emotional entanglement” with the suspect.
“We would like to emphasise that the case has nothing to do with the July 1 handover, it is an individual case involving family violence. But fortunately, the high-profile police patrol deployed for the handover celebrations stopped the violence quickly,” a spokesman from the force said early on Sunday.

Investigation showed the 47-year-old man, who claimed to be a worker at a stall selling vegetables, entered a flat on Reclamation Street at around 8.15pm.
Officers arrived at the scene at 9.16pm after a bloodstained woman screamed for help, shouting: “I’ve been stabbed.”
A video posted online shows officers in stabproof vests ordering a shirtless man standing on the pavement to “not move” and “put it down”.
Someone also yells in the video that “the couple were wounded by a knife”.
