Five Chinese nationals – a woman, 29, and four men, aged 23 to 30 – were also among the victims, as well as two Vietnamese people.
Cambodian police said the blaze was reported at around 5pm local time on Saturday at the 6969 nightclub in downtown Phnom Penh.
The fire reportedly left the eight victims trapped on the upper floor of a five-storey building. A preliminary police investigation suggested a short circuit sparked the blaze, which burned for three hours.
A spokesman for the Immigration Department said it had contacted the Chinese foreign ministry’s office in the city as well as the country’s embassy in Cambodia for information on the latest situation and had yet to receive any calls for help from Hongkongers.
“The department will stay in touch with the office and the embassy while keeping tabs on the latest situation regarding the incident,” he added.
The department also said Hongkongers could reach it for help by calling or sending messages to its +852 1868 hotline, or through its app or an online form.
