Man dies after suspected fall from Hong Kong’s Lion Rock
- Police received report from hiker who saw victim near iconic rock on popular trail before hearing cries for help
- Emergency crews later find body 50 metres downhill from initial site
A man was suspected to have fallen to his death at Hong Kong’s Lion Rock, police on Thursday revealed.
The force said it received a report at 9.30pm on Wednesday from a hiker who last saw the man, with short hair and a rotund build, standing near the iconic lion-shaped rock on Lung Cheung Road in Wong Tai Sin.
“The hiker then heard cries for help. It is suspected that the man had fallen from the site,” a force spokesman said.
“Police, fire services and the Government Flying Service conducted search and rescue operations and found the man on the slope 50 metres (164 feet) below the mentioned site.”

The man, aged between 30 and 40, was confirmed dead at the scene. Police are investigating the case and an autopsy will be conducted.
