An elderly man has died in a fire in a Hong Kong flat that forced the evacuation of about 200 other people from the block.

Video footage and photos circulated online on Sunday showed flames and smoke billowing out of the window of the flat.

Police said the body of a man in his 70s was found in the property, along with a charcoal stove.

The force was alerted to the fire in Block B, Smithfield Terrace, Kennedy Town, at 7.34pm.

Firefighters used a water jet and mobilised a team in breathing equipment to fight the blaze.
