An eight-year-old Hong Kong girl who was left in a vegetative state by an incident during surgery four years ago died on Sunday evening after life support was stopped, according to sources.
Chau Tin-yu’s family said on their social media page last Thursday that she had not been able to digest food for two days and had been vomiting.
Healthcare workers had to pump her stomach to remove milk and stopped feeding her. She had to instead rely on glucose solutions.
Staff had also stopped drawing blood from her to avoid causing pain. They said taking blood from her veins was no longer possible due to frequent withdrawal, but collecting blood by skin puncture would be too painful.

Her father, Eddie Chau, who is battling cancer, also revealed in the post that his cancer index had returned to a normal level of 2.8, from a peak of 27, after 55 sessions of radiotherapy and four of chemotherapy.
