Hong Kong was hit by heavy rain and thunderstorms on Sunday afternoon, with eastern parts of the city such as Sha Tin and Sai Kung badly affected.

The Hong Kong Observatory said an area of thundery showers associated with a trough of low pressure was approaching the Pearl River Delta.

It said more than 10mm of rainfall were recorded over many areas of the eastern part of Hong Kong in the afternoon, and even exceeded 30mm over Sha Tin and Sai Kung districts.

“Members of the public should be aware of the change in weather,” the Observatory said.
