A 62-year-old Hong Kong man was found dead in a country park on Monday after he was reported missing by his family, in the second fatal hiking accident in 24 hours.

A search was launched after Poon Chung-lung’s wife reported him missing at around 7.30pm on Sunday, according to a source familiar with the case on Monday.

The insider said Poon’s body was discovered when another hiker called police at around 11am on Monday, reporting that a man wearing a white T-shirt was found lying unresponsive in the woods off MacLehose Trail near Beacon Hill in Lion Rock Country Park.

He said emergency personnel later located the man and certified him dead at the scene.

The source said the man was confirmed to be Poon and that an autopsy would be carried out to ascertain the cause of death.

Poon, who worked as a security guard, left his public housing flat in Wong Tai Sin for a hike in Lion Rock Country Park at around 1pm on Sunday. He later contacted his wife saying he had finished hiking and was on the way back home.
