Hong Kong’s New Territories hit by downpours; more heavy rain forecast for region

Hong Kong’s New Territories was hit by heavy downpours earlier this afternoon, with over 30 millimetres of rainfall recorded in Ta Kwu Ling, while the Pearl River Estuary was expected to face thundery showers on Thursday night and Friday.

The Observatory issued the alert at 5.46pm on Thursday, warning the public of occasional showers and thunderstorms in the city, with heavier showers on Friday.

The forecaster also reminded the public to stay vigilant and expect wet conditions over the coming nine days.

Under the influence of a trough of low pressure and upper-air disturbances, there will also be showers and thunderstorms over the coast of Guangdong on Friday, according to the Observatory.
