‘Michele Reis of CityU’: ex-girl group dancer Ellyn Ngai crowned Miss Hong Kong 2024

Winner is former member of local dance group Morii Girls, which she joined in 2022 under name Stella Ngai

A 23-year-old university graduate has been crowned Miss Hong Kong 2024.

Ellyn Ngai Lok-lam beat 14 others to claim the top prize in the city’s flagship beauty contest on Sunday evening. Students Emily Leung Ka-ying, 22, and Amina Yeung Chi-jiu, 21, were named first and second runner-up respectively.

Leung was also named Miss Photogenic in the pageant organised by broadcaster TVB.

The 167.5cm (5.5 feet) tall Ngai is a graduate of City University, where classmates dubbed her the “Michele Reis of CityU”.

Reis is a former actress and won the Miss Chinese International Pageant and Miss Hong Kong beauty contests in 1988.

Ngai talked about her ambitions after winning the contest.
