Hongkongers will be able to enjoy shopping vouchers, dining discounts and free rides on public transport as the city marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China on October 1.
In addition to special deals at 3,000 eateries, the government on Tuesday also announced that about 400 activities would be held to celebrate National Day, including a fireworks display, drone shows and car parades.
The Post lists some of the key events and offers.
Entertainment

A National Day fireworks display will light up Victoria Harbour at 9pm on October 1.


Half-price tickets in cinemas across Hong Kong. Customers can also get vouchers for popcorn and beverages.


Free admission to permanent exhibitions at the Hong Kong Science Museum and the Hong Kong Space Museum, as well as the special exhibition at the Hong Kong Museum of Art.


Free access to sporting facilities managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.


Free entry at the Hong Kong Wetland Park.


Free entry to a sports-themed carnival at Sai Sha Go Park, where visitors can try activities such as fencing and rock climbing.


Transport

Octopus card users enjoy 25 per cent off train fares on the MTR network.


Children can take free bus rides on select routes.


Free tram rides will be offered around Hong Kong Island.


Free rides on Star Ferry vessels will be available between Tsim Sha Tsui and Wan Chai, as well as Central.


Fortune Ferry will distribute 750 free rides each on the Central-Hung Hom and North Point-Kwun Tong routes.

Dining

Over 3,000 food and beverage establishments will offer dining discounts.


At least 10,000 vendors at wet markets and cooked food centres will offer a 25 per cent discount.


A 25 per cent discount on panda-themed food and beverage items and panda-themed merchandise at Ocean Park.


One-for-one deals for Godiva ice cream and selected beverages at Silk at Lee Tung Avenue. Shoppers can also redeem HK$100 worth of dining and shopping coupons upon spending HK$750.


Shopping

Over 100 shopping centres will offer discounts, vouchers and lucky draws.


The top 30 shoppers with the highest cumulative spending at 25 Sun Hung Kai shopping centres stand to win two round-trip flight tickets to Yonago in Japan.


Residents who present an ID card that carries the number “7” or “5” can redeem a HK$50 F&B e-coupon upon spending HK$150 at select Sun Hung Kai shopping centres.

First-time events

A variety show will be held with singing, folk dance, martial arts, drumming and Chinese orchestra performances at Queen Elizabeth Stadium on September 27.


A choir of 1,000 students will sing patriotic songs and a 75th anniversary-themed drone show will be held on September 30 at the West Kowloon Cultural District.


A showcase of traditional Chinese costumes by 1,000 young people will be put on at Queen Elizabeth Stadium on October 4.


A classic car parade on October 6 will be organised by the Hong Kong, China Automobile Association, with a display of 75 vintage vehicles on Hong Kong Island, the Tsim Sha Tsui harbourfront, the West Kowloon Cultural District and Disneyland.


An exhibition will showcase retired and new energy buses at Victoria Park on October 19.
