Hong Kong can expect cooler week ahead after Mid-Autumn sizzle, with rain and strong winds
Observatory says temperatures on Monday set to drop to as low as 23 degrees in urban areas and a couple of degrees lower in New Territories
Hong Kong is expecting a cooler week ahead, with temperatures dropping to as low as 23 degrees Celsius (73 Fahrenheit) with occasional heavy rain and strong winds.
Sunday also marks Qiufen in the Chinese lunar calendar, which signifies the deepening of autumn, with cooler air masses from the north starting to spread southward.
Qiu means “autumn” and fen means “divide” in Chinese.
“It will be windy [on Monday], showers will be more frequent at times,” the forecaster said. “The minimum temperature will fall to about 23 degrees in the urban areas, and a couple of degrees lower in the New Territories.”
The showers will ease off gradually, with the weather getting brighter in the middle and latter parts of this week.
A tropical depression was also recorded over the Taiwan Strait, with the storm centred about 120km (75 miles) east of Xiamen as of 1pm on Sunday. It is expected to move west-southwest at about 10km/h (6mph), edging closer to the coast of Fujian.
