Video circulating online shows ‘huge’ rat scurrying on the surface of light panel installed on ceiling

Hong Kong authorities have initiated prosecution against the popular Japanese restaurant Sushiro for “unsatisfactory” hygiene conditions at one branch after a video circulated online showing a rat scurrying on a light panel.
In a reply to the Post on Thursday evening, the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department said an inspection of the Wong Tai Sin branch found no trace of rodents, but officers regarded the hygiene condition as “unsatisfactory”.
“Officers have initiated prosecution against the licensee of the premises in accordance with the Food Business Regulation,” a department spokesman said. “The food premise involved has been instructed to rectify the situation within four days.”
“If the situation persists upon our reinspection, further prosecution will be initiated.
In the video, which went viral on Thursday, the rat is seen moving on the surface of the panel installed on the ceiling before jumping to an area near an air conditioner in the restaurant located in Lok Fu Place in Wong Tai Sin district.
An internet user named “jimmylam_0” posted the video on Threads, a microblogging platform launched by Meta, and said that the restaurant manager asked him not to film the rat.
The social media post has attracted more than 2,300 likes so far.
