Worried Filipino tourists contact Hong Kong travel agencies after fatal taxi crash
No tour cancellations received, but agencies say they have been fielding questions following death of Filipino visitor struck by taxi
Some Hong Kong tour agencies have received inquiries from Filipino travellers about safety in the city following the death of a tourist from the Philippines who was struck by a taxi, but arrival numbers are not expected to be affected.
Hong Kong-based travel agencies catering to Filipinos, both in the city and abroad, said on Thursday that most of their clients understood the incident was an accident. None had received tour cancellations.
A taxi struck a Filipino tourist head-on when it mounted the pavement outside Tsuen Wan’s Nina Hotel on Tuesday. The visitor, 35, later died in hospital.
The cabby, 80, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing death.
The Post earlier reported that the taxi driver said he had felt dizzy and lost control of the vehicle.
The crash has sent shock waves through the local Filipino community, while also raising concerns about whether it would affect the record number of tourists arriving in Hong Kong from the country.
