Viral footage of what appears to be a sports car gliding across Hong Kong waters has raised questions about the craft’s legality among puzzled onlookers and social media users.
A video posted on a Facebook group earlier this week shows a vessel that looks exactly like a yellow sports car in Victoria Harbour.
The Marine Department’s reply to the Post on Friday revealed there were two such vessels that “bear the appearance of a car”, adding that the owners had applied for valid operating licences, which were issued in June and August.
“Pleasure vessels can operate in Hong Kong waters (including Victoria Harbour) as long as they meet the relevant safety requirements stipulated in maritime legislation, including that the operator holds a valid certificate,” a department spokesman added.
The Facebook clip has garnered thousands of likes and more than 200 comments.
