A Hong Kong father is appealing to the public for help in locating his 23-year-old daughter, with whom he lost contact in July after she reportedly left the city for Germany, despite claiming that she was going to university in the United Kingdom.

Wilfred Lam Chi-wing told the Post that he last spoke to his daughter, Joan Lam Nga-yau, on July 28, after which he lost all contact with her.

“I’ve contacted her friends, classmates … no one can contact her,” the father said. “I just want to know that she is safe; that is the most important.”

Lam said that his daughter was a kind person but had been struggling emotionally.

According to Lam, his daughter originally left Hong Kong for the UK last December to study a six-month foundation programme in nursing at the University of Huddersfield.

He added that when he last spoke to her on the phone in July, she told him she had just finished her exams and was planning to return to Hong Kong for the summer holidays in August.
