2 cats found at Tai Po inferno site a month after Hong Kong blaze, SPCA says
Animal protection group calls discovery a ‘miracle’ and expresses hope of finding more missing pets

At least two pet cats have been found alive at the Wang Fuk Court fire site in Hong Kong’s Tai Po about a month after the inferno, according to an animal protection group, which called the discovery a “miracle” and expressed hope of finding more.
Non-profit body the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) revealed on Friday that it had trapped a cat the previous day and reunited it with its owner.
It was the second cat found in the week following Christmas Day, the group said.
In an earlier post on social media, the organisation estimated the fire had affected at least 537 pets including cats, dogs, birds, fish, reptiles, rodents, snakes, chelonians, hedgehogs and crabs.
On Friday, the SPCA said police allowed it to set up a small number of cat traps and cameras on Christmas Eve at Wang Yan House of Wang Fuk Court, the only building that was spared from the fire.
“And on Christmas Day, a miracle happened – a cat was safely trapped!” the SPCA said on social media.
