Hong Kong’s Frederick Ma urges deeper support for special needs education
Hong Kong Special Schools Council organises golf tournament to raise awareness of group and funds for institutions

The chairman of the Hong Kong Special Schools Council chairman has urged the public to strengthen their support for disabled students in the city at a charity golf event organised to raise awareness of the group.
The tournament, held on Friday at Fanling Golf Club and organised by the council, drew 21 teams comprising 84 people, including one made up of players with disabilities. Competitors vied for prizes such as a BYD electric car and tickets to see Cantopop singer Jacky Cheung Hok-yau in concert.
“The event is about more than just money. We hope to raise public awareness of special schools … children with special needs require much more care and support,” chairman Frederick Ma Si-hang said.
“The council did not have a very concrete goal this year. Our ultimate goal is to call on more and more people to pay attention to children with special needs. The more, the merrier.”
The council is a non-profit organisation dedicated to advancing special education and supporting students with special needs.
Ma, who also chairs the Trade Development Council, did not disclose how much money was raised from the tournament. Participants included leaders from several financial institutions such as HSBC, the city’s biggest lender, and insurer FWD Group, where Ma serves as chairman.
