Hong Kong police arrest truck driver over fatal collision

Police say victim, 65, was pushing trolley loaded with cardboard when she was struck by vehicle on Kwun Tong Road

Hong Kong police have arrested a 60-year-old truck driver after his vehicle hit and fatally injured a 65-year-old woman in Kwun Tong on Monday morning.

Police received a report at 5.55am that a medium goods vehicle was travelling along Kwun Tong Road towards Lam Tin when it struck a woman pushing a trolley stacked with cardboard near the Tsui Ping Road junction.

The force of the collision caused the victim to be hurled through the air before landing on the ground, unconscious.

The scene was littered with scattered cardboard and skid marks left by the truck that stretched more than 10 metres (33 feet).

Paramedics arrived and took the woman to United Christian Hospital in Kwun Tong, where she was pronounced dead at 6.20am.
