Police investigate suspicious fire that killed 30-year-old woman after drug paraphernalia found in master bedroom
A 30-year-old woman has died and two other people remain in a critical condition following a suspicious fire at a flat in Hong Kong’s affluent Mid-Levels district, with police later uncovering drug-taking apparatus in a bedroom.
The Hospital Authority confirmed on Sunday that the woman, who had been rushed to Ruttonjee Hospital in Wan Chai, was pronounced dead at 11.20pm on Saturday.
A source said the 30-year-old, a mainland Chinese woman holding a two-way permit, had sustained extensive burns to multiple parts of her body.
A man and a woman who were taken to Queen Mary Hospital in Pok Fu Lam remained in a critical condition, the authority added.
They were identified as a 64-year-old local man, surnamed Wan, who suffered severe burns to his limbs and respiratory tract from smoke inhalation, and a 37-year-old mainland woman, surnamed Lu, who was also visiting the city on a two-way permit, according to the insider.
Two-way permits are granted by mainland authorities and allow the holders to visit Hong Kong for up to three months.
According to sources, the deceased woman, surnamed Ni, and Wan were a couple, while Lu was a friend visiting them.
